In the fall of 2024, Pierce County Elections collaborated with the LWVTPC for a door-to-door canvassing project to address recurring signature verification issues. There are voters every election whose ballots are rejected because the ballot signatures do not match the signatures on file and, therefore, not counted. Many of these voters have had their ballots rejected in multiple elections.
This initiative successfully increased ballot acceptance rates and voter participation while providing valuable insights into voter behavior and outreach effectiveness.
By the Numbers:
20 volunteers participated, in teams of 2 or 3
350+ voter residences were visited
30% rate of return for corrected signature forms
12.3% increase in election participation among these voters
